Come to try the unique combination of flavors, the fresh meats and charcuterie, and the great cocktails. It is actually a deli also, so after you enjoy a meal with friends you can also bring home something really good too.
The ambiance is nice for a date night with the cream city brick and the comfortable modern feel of the decor.
We came here during Gallery Night, so it was very busy. The food was excellent. The service was just meh. Our server forgot an order, so it wasn't because of the crowd. She was also inattentive, so that was annoying.
I really like the shop inside. Lots of cool food and kitchen stuff. It's fun for a foodie! I've been here many times. The food always stands out. The service could use some work.
Some of my pictures are from a prior visit, so it doesn't look busy. I just liked those pictures better!
An excellent place for lunch AND the perfect introductory meal for your first visit to Milwaukee as they prioritize local farmers and purveyors. The shop at the front also has some great upscale food and drink finds for the home and pantry.
The new location brings much more space and ambiance. It's perfect for a date night or a business lunch.
The menu is time tested and benefits from sourcing things locally, freshly prepared by butchers working out in the open kitchen.
Flew into Milwaukee for a long weekend and immediately dropped into Bavette for a huge 10+ group dinner. It was a fantastic experience with strong cocktails, great wine and well-executed farm-to-table food.
We started off with Manhattans and a few bottles of wine. Delivery was well paced and we never felt rushed even though we took up a huge space towards the back. We ordered multiple appetizers including the Charcuterie Board, Seared Hokkaido Scallops with a savory Corn Panna Cotta, Iberico Ham, Hamachi Crudo and Beef Fat Fries. It was a good mix of fresh, fried and cured food to start. For entrees, most gravitated to the Pork Chop with Clams & Chorizo while others got the Butcher’ Cut (NY Strip on the night we went). I opted for an interesting Carmelle Pasta with Crab Ricotta Filling, Charred Corn, Crispy Jamon, Chanterelles & Pecorino. Outstanding flavors.
Service was great. It’s not easy catering to a 10-top and there was never any confusion or delay in pacing our meal. Top notch. There isn’t a whole lot of parking options. Our hotel was walkable to Third Ward so it wasn’t an issue for but I could see it being an issue on a Friday or Saturday night. All in all, wholeheartedly recommend the seasonal offerings at Bavette for parties large or small.
Wife and I went out with another couple for dinner on a Friday night.
The atmosphere is great, love the old timber ceiling.
The appetizers were delicious, though a little disappointed that the scallop dish only came with 3. Deviled eggs were great, as was the octopus.
Crazy disappointed with the steak. Ordered the 20oz porterhouse, which was >$100, medium rare. It was served medium to mid well and had been sliced in the kitchen. My assumption was maybe they were trying to make it easier for the customer, or may they didn't know how to cook to the correct temp. Regardless, it was wrong.
The filet side was horribly overdone and the flavor tasted off. The other side was almost medium, but had better flavorful.
No one else at the table got steak, and I didn't send back or comment so it wouldn't interrupt our evening.
Agree with some of the other reviews, if you're a butcher/steak house, it should be done right.
Reuben tongue sandwich. I'm into it. It needs more sour krout and Russian dressing. 7.8/10
Korean steak au jus. Park my cab and call me a scoundrel, this sandwich is the bees knees. If I had a bucket list of 10 things to eat in Milwaukee, this sandwich would make the list. 9.6/10
Spanish gin and tonic. 5.0/10 they took a perfectly good drink and put a creative twist on it to make it mediocre.
Be ready to spend $13-$15 on a drink
Everything we had was done very well. The textures and flavors were fantastic in every dish we tried. Great dining experience all around.
